A multidisciplinary team of bioengineers and mathematicians who use their quantitative background to model and understand biological processes.
Principal Investigator
Computational biologist initially trained as a bioengineer. Research interests include bioinformatics, visual analytics and machine/deep learning applied to neuroscience and health informatics.
MSc in Bioengineering and Biotechnology (EPFL, 2009) and PhD in Bioinformatics (University of Basel, 2013). Led several research projects at the Francis Crick Institute (London) on RNA metabolism in developing neurons and its impact on disease. Started her own research group in December 2019; SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics Group Leader since 2022 and EPFL Lecturer since 2023.
Postdoctoral researcher
BSc in Computer Science and Biology (McGill University), MSc in Computational Biology (University of Cambridge) and PhD in Computational and Quantitative Biology (EPFL). Develops computational methods to decipher the mechanisms underlying amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), with a focus on the non-coding portions of mRNA in neural development and ALS pathology.
PhD candidate
BSc in Mathematics (Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia) and MSc in Applied Mathematics (Università di Siena), with a thesis on drug side-effect prediction using molecular graphs and graph neural networks. Interested in AI and machine learning to analyse biomedical datasets in a fast and unbiased way.
PhD candidate
BSc and MSc in Life Sciences Engineering (EPFL), specialised in computational biology. PhD in the Computational and Quantitative Biology doctoral school at EPFL since August 2023, on the role of non-coding regions of mRNA, especially 3′ UTRs, in cancer.
MSc student
BSc in Biochemistry (University of Lisbon), MSc in Bioinformatics (University of Birmingham). Works with methylation data in a project that aims to identify genes involved in chronic pain.
Visiting researcher
PhD candidate in the Wu Lab, University of Geneva. Interested in gene regulation mediated by RNA, the role of paternal RNAs in embryogenesis and of 3′ UTRs in sperm RNA.
Visiting researcher
Research fellow, Barabino Silvia Research Group, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.
Provisional Portraits to come. Bios condensed from the member pages of luisierlab.com, to be validated by each member.
